From Commander Post 77
May is National Military Appreciation Month, National Barbeque Month and Mothers Day, and American Legion Post 77 has got things planned to recognize it all!!!
First off, check out our website and facebook page and see the monthly basket, themed towards Mothers Day!
May 2nd is our monthly meal & meeting (6pm at the Community Room at Centerton City Hall) and we will draw a winners ticket for the basket at the meeting. Tickets for the basket are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5. You can purchase tickets at our office during various office hours through the week, purchase tickets at our monthly meeting, or contact one of our executive officers to see about purchasing tickets electronically!!
After our monthly meeting, the weekend of May 10, 11 & 12! Mothers Day Weekend! Our American Legion Family members are going to be manning a table at the Gun Show at the Benton County Fairgrounds. We will have information about the American Legion Family groups and planning to have drawings as well. Come on out and see us there!
Next is May 18th (ARMED FORCES APPRECIATION DAY), which is going to be a very busy day for the American Legion family of Post 77!!
10am some of our Post Family members will be at Bentonville Cemetery putting flags on the graves of Veterans. There are around 800 veterans buried at Bentonville Cemetery alone. With volunteers from local schools, the Civil Air Patrol of Rogers, and other volunteers we can place a flag on each of the veteran graves in about 2 hours!
2pm the American Legion Family of Post 77 is hosting an Armed Forces Appreciation Day Barbeque at Memorial Park in Bentonville!! The event is FREE and we will have music, events, activities and information provided for and by our community and veterans! The event is from 2pm - 6pm. If you are interested in participating, volunteering or having a space for a craft or information or activity please contact a member of the Post Family or contact us through our email (email@example.com)
May 25, 26 & 27 is Memorial Day weekend!! Do you have plans for this holiday? Our American Legion Family is excited to announce that The Wall That Heals is going to be in Bentonville that weekend. It will be setup and on display in the field near Crystal Bridges. The Wall That Heals is a mobile replica of the Vietnam War memorial wall in Washington D.C.
The American Legion Family of Post 77 is NOT the "Bunch of old people sitting around, drinking, smoking and telling war stories" as is often perceived. Our "family" is involved in and supports our community; as well as our veterans and veterans families, and our current members of our armed forces and their families! Can't you contribute even 2 hours of your month to being involved as well?
Check the Bulletin Board page for upcoming events
Our Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron meets the first Saturday of each month at 10am at our office in the Center for Non-Profits at the Old St Marys building (1200 W Walnut).
Last item for now, keep checking our website for information, and updates - but also check out and join or like our Facebook page(s) as well. We welcome ALL veterans and their family members!!
